Francesca Esther Zimmering wishes she were having a better Christmas Eve. Instead of sitting home by the fire, she has to go out into the cold to find her little sister, Antonietta Kim Schnitzer who has run away to Rotterdam with her boyfriend. Along the way, Francesca picks up another troubled young woman, Gerlinde Hannelore Elsner, who is on the verge of committing suicide.

Zia Patrick Fugit doesnt have much to live for and decides to take the ultimate plunge. After committing suicide, he finds himself in a strange land of limbo thats filled with other tragic suicides. While there he goes on an epic journey to find his former girlfriend and picks up a pair of interesting characters to accompany him: Eugene Shea Whigham and Mikal Shannyn Sossamon.
