Edith Piaf (Marion Cotillard) grows up on the seedier side of Paris in her grandmother's brothel, but with her unique singing voice, she becomes one of the most beloved stage performers of all time. She is encouraged to sing professionally by a nightclub owner (Gerard Depardieu) who recognizes her natural talent. Eventually celebrated the world over, Piaf's world comes crashing down when first her husband (Jean-Pierre Martins) dies in a car crash, which leads her to a terrible morphine addiction.
